We had a really lovely day out last week. First we visited the An Post Sorting Centre. John took us on a tour of the centre and explained all the steps involved in a letter arriving in the centre to how it ends up at our homes. Next we headed to McGettigan’s Bakery where Frank greeted us at the front door, along with the sweet smell of baking!! We got to see lots of delicious goodies which were being made in the bakery and Frank was kind enough to give us a little sweet treat to try which we really enjoyed. Finally we went to the town park from a picnic, a play in the playground and a Spring Scavenger hunt. It was a great day out!

We have been busy looking for signs of Spring. We spotted some in our school grounds. We also have made some bright and colourful Spring art and love how it all turned out! Spring is definitely in the air in our classroom and we are happy to see it!
Here’s a fun Spring song

We really enjoyed our February theme of ‘The French Bakery in Springtime’. We especially loved getting to make real cookies and learn all about France.

Last week was our annual ‘Wellbeing Week’. We talked about how our mental health is just like our physical health and we discussed ways of looking after our wellbeing. We know that exercise, being outside in the fresh air, doing things we enjoy like art, baking, playing with our toys all help us to feel good. We know that too much screen time is not good for us. We practised some breathing to help us if we are ever feeling worried or overwhelmed.
On Wednesday we got lots of exercise and fun with Manus for our PE and we had an Emoji Hunt on Thursday.
Pajama day was a very busy day for us. We started with breakfast, then we did a film treasure hunt with our 5th class buddies and after snack time we did our whole school dance to the song ‘Me’ by Taylor Swift.
We really like the idea of ‘The Power of Yet’…. that just because we can’t do something now does not mean that we will never be able to do it, we just need to remember the power of yet! For example I can’t cycle my bike yet but if I practise and try hard I will get there. Here is a fun song we listened to:

Our theme for January was ‘At the Dentist’. We learned lots of new vocabulary based on our theme and we did a lot of learning on how to look after our teeth. We may even have a few future dentists in our class!! In January as part of our Creative Schools program we had an artist called Feena come into our class and she did two art sessions with us.
We really enjoyed making our clay ‘Tooth Fairy pots’. The clay was very messy to work with but we are so pleased with how they turned out when they dried and we got to paint them!

We had a surprise ‘Drop Everything and Create Day’ on Friday. It started first thing on Friday morning when we had an unexpected assembly and Mr. Shiels told us that our brief was to be creative and think of ways that we can make the world a better place, he told us our theme of for the day was: We are kind and caring Warriors who care for our world’. He also told us we had no time for maths or Irish!!
We had a busy day. Firstly we brainstormed and using lego and other toys were created things like wild flower gardens and homes with solar panels. We then made two class bird feeders. After break time we planted flowers and then used our junk art to make bird houses. We had to meet back in the big hall after lunch. We saw lots of amazing inventions and ideas when we gathered in the hall. We are looking forward to watching our flowers grow and to see if any birds come to use our bird feeders.
