After listening to the story of St.Patrick we drew our favourite part of his story. We did this last week.
After listening to the story of St.Patrick we drew our favourite part of his story. We did this last week.
We love dancing and singing along to Usher and his Sesame Street friends.
This week in SPHE we talked about feeling angry. We know that while it’s ok to feel angry it’s important that we never hurt anyone else while we are angry. Mo & Ko suggest if we are angry we can try our ‘slide breathing’ or walk away until we are feeling calmer. In our copies we drew a picture of an angry face!!
Here’s a nice story that we listened to:
In science we have been exploring the five senses that our bodies have. On Monday we focused on our sense of smell. We talked about some of our favourite smells and we also gave our least favourite smell which caused alot of laughs!! We learned that smells travel through air into our nostrils and then our brain decides if we like the smell our not. We learned that some smells are soft and others are strong.
We carried our a ‘smell jar’ experiement where we have to smell six different jars which each had a different scent and figure out which jar was which. The scents were soap, coffee, vanilla, peppermint, perfume and orange. The peppermint was the easiest to recognize with soap and perfume being hard to tell apart!
Our March aistear theme was ‘The Pizzeria’. The class had been patiently waiting all year for this topic having seen it on the video before they started school. We have covered so much through this theme; from Geography, learning all about Italy, history listening to the story ‘The Little red hen makes pizza’ aswell as looking at healthy eating awell as creating lots of lovely art to go along with our theme. Through our Pizzeria theme we were introduced to lots of new vocabulary and the role play corner also provided opportunities for free writing on menus etc.
Our aistear activities were:
Activity 1: Role Play Corner: At the Pizzeria
Activity 2: Sensory Play: Day 1: Making Ice cream Sundaes out of waterbeads Day 2: Playdough birthday cupcakes
Activity 3:Craft: Day 1:Making spaghetti Bolognese and chef hats. Day 2: Junk art: Making chef equipment
Activity 4 Construction: Day 1: Building famous Italian landmarks out of jakko blocks. Day 2: Designing restaurants out of lego
As part of our SPHE programme we have been talking about all the different emotions that we all experience. Each week we focus on a different emotion. The aim of this programme is to let children know that all feelings are ok and that all feelings do pass. Over the last month we have focused on one feeling each week and had a discuss about a time we felt that emotion, what to do if we are experiencing a big feeling e.g. if we are feeling an sad we can tell someone, have a hug or have a little cry. If we are feeling angry we can try our ‘sliding breath’ technique where we breath is slowly counting to 4 and then count to 4 as we breath out again. We have also drawn pictures in our sphe copies
Here are some of the songs that we have listened to:
We really enjoyed our February theme of ‘At the Garden Centre in Springtime’.
We learned all about what plants need to grow, we identified signs of spring and we listened to Jack and the Beanstalk… we used this story for drama too and had lots of fun in role as the different characters from the story.
