Our March aistear theme was ‘The Pizzeria’.  The class had been patiently waiting all year for this topic having seen it on the video before they started school. We have covered so much through this theme; from Geography, learning all about Italy, history listening to the story ‘The Little red hen makes pizza’ aswell as looking at healthy eating awell as creating lots of lovely art to go along with our theme. Through our Pizzeria theme we were introduced to lots of new vocabulary and the role play corner also provided opportunities for free writing on menus etc.

Our aistear activities were:

Activity 1: Role Play Corner: At the Pizzeria

Activity 2: Sensory Play: Day 1: Making Ice cream Sundaes out of waterbeads Day 2: Playdough birthday cupcakes

We had such a fun day today. Our classroom was a sea of green with some serious style 💚💚

After making our own flags we headed out and had our own parade around the school, waving to all the bigger children.

As part of our SPHE programme we have been talking about all the different emotions that we all experience. Each week we focus on a different emotion. The aim of this programme is to let children know that all feelings are ok and that all feelings do pass. Over the last month we have focused on one feeling each week and had a discuss about a time we felt that emotion, what to do if we are experiencing a big feeling e.g. if we are feeling an sad we can tell someone, have a hug or have a little cry. If we are feeling angry we can try our ‘sliding breath’ technique where we breath is slowly counting to 4 and then count to 4 as we breath out again. We have also drawn pictures in our sphe copies
Here are some of the songs that we have listened to:

We really enjoyed our February theme of ‘At the Garden Centre in Springtime’.

We learned all about what plants need to grow, we identified signs of spring and we listened to Jack and the Beanstalk… we used this story for drama too and had lots of fun in role as the different characters from the story.

We really enjoyed our school Well Being Week. Our theme for the week was ‘Connection’. Each class made paper chains to connect our classroom with our neighbour classrooms. There was great excitement when we made a paper chain  long enough to connect to two other classroom!

Here are some photos of our paper chains

Each class was paired up with another class and we were paired with Mrs Gallagher’s class. On Thursday they called down and gave each child a lovely friendship bracelet aswell as a yummy chocolate treat. Our class then planted each child a sunflower and we visited their window on Friday to given them their little gift.

Show and Tell on Friday was a great end to a fantastic week. It was so exciting to have our special toys from home in class:

We looked at the jobs of people in our communities who help us such as firemen, gardaí, doctors/nurses aswell as other job such as teachers, vets, hairdressers etc as part of our January theme. This lead us to discuss which job the children thought they might like to do when they grow up! We drew this as an art activity and very carefully painted them. Don’t they look great!!

We had a very busy day today making a little gift to show our grandparents how much we love them. We really enjoyed looking at the photos of our grandparents on Seesaw and we told each other what our favourite thing to do with our grandparents is. We said a prayer for them and we remembered our Grannies and Grandads who are in Heaven.
